Fort Kent's Reardon and Orono's White Skate to Individual Freestyle Championships
February 19: Day 2 of the 2025 MPA Class C State Nordic Championships at Black Mountain feature the 5k freestyle pursuit event. Under sunny skies and less windy conditions, Alden Reardon of Fort Kent 
won the 2025 Class C Freestyle state championship on the famed John Roderick ski trails. His winning time was 13:30.7. Second place was taken by Reardon's teammate Fletcher Marquis with a time of 14:06.9. Ben Chartier of Fort Fairfield came in third place with a time of 14:55.2.
In fourth place was Sam Geissinger of Spruce Mountain High School with a 15:01.0 finish. Fort Kent's Quinn Michaud skated across the line in 15:23.6 to take fifth place and in sixth place was Finley Marquis of Fort Kent, who had a time of 15:52.6.
In the girls race, 
Clara White of Orono High School won her second title with a time of 14:24.6. In second place was Rowan Tanguay of Fort Kent with a time of 16:14.4. Taking third place was Soren Stark-Chessa of Maine Coast. She crossed the line in 16:52.9.
Coming in fourth place was Waynflete's Leah Kramer with a time of 17:20.7. Ella Akers of Telstar High School took fifth place with a finish of 18:58.0. Fourt Ken't Addison Chasse grabbed sixth place with a time of 19:11.4.
With great depth and outstanding skiing, Fort Kent men and women doubled as the 2025 Class C Nordic state champions. The Orono boys and the Waynflete girls were runners-up. Also, congratulations to the Orono boys and girls for receiving the MPA Class C Sportsmanhip award.

Cote and McCourt Repeat as Champions
February 19: The 2025 MPA Class A State Nordic Championships Day 2 was held at Black Mountain under sunny skies and slightly less windy conditions. Beckett Cote of Messalonskee won 5k Freestyle to become the men’s state champion.
His winning time was 12:36.5. Second place went to Henri McCourt of Mount Blue High School with a time of 13:00.0. In third place was Grayson Hoeft, also of Mount Blue with a time of 13:54.7.
Sam Cashman of Brunswick High School took fourth place with a time of 14:13.1. In fifth place was Jack Borland of Deering, who crossed the line in 14:13.5. Rounding out the top six were Elias Bartlett of Mount Blue with a time of 14:18.8.
In the women’s freestyle, Nora McCourt of Mount Blue captured the 2025 Class A Freestyle championship skating to the finish in 14:58.0. In second place was Maya Kellett of Mt. Blue with a time of 15:49.9. Taking third place was Eli Tardiff of Falmouth with a time of 17:10.6.
Emma Price, skiing for Portland High School, took fourth place with a time of17:29.2. Fifth place was captured by Falmouth’s Zora Desilva. The Falcon skier finished with a time of 17:53.8. In sixth place was Portland’s Talia Olins with a time of 17:57.7.
The Mt. Blue boys and girls both won the team 2025 Class A Nordic state championship. The Brunswick boys and Portland girls were runners-up. Also, congratulations to the Mt. Blue boys and girls and to the Edward Little girls for receiving the MPA Class A Sportsmanship award.

Greely's Harvey and Barry take individual Freestyle Championships
February 19: With the weather conditions much calmer than Day 1, Day 2 of the 2025 MPA Class B State Nordic Championships was held at Black Mountain of Maine with the skiers competing in the 5k freestyle pursuit race. In the boys race,
Tait Harvey of Greely won the Class B Freestyle state championship with a winning time of 13:59.0. In second place was Owen Dawson of Freeport with a time of 14:13.7. Taking the final podium place was Jacob Dening of Leavitt with a time of 14:28.0.
Fourth place went to Aksel Moon of Yarmouth High School with a time of 14:32.3. In fifth place was Alexander Gordon of Yarmouth, who had a finish of 14:33.9. Taking sixth place was Leif Hellstedt of Yarmouth, cross the line in 15:02.0.
In the women's event, Rowan Barry of Greely took top honors with a finish of 15:58.2. Like Harvey, Barry also capture the classical championship on the previous day. Second place for the women was Lucy Huggett of Freeport HS with a time of 16:53.0. Behind her in third was Freeport's Reed Proscia with a 17:10.2 finish.
Ida Waterman of Gray-New Gloucester came in fourth with a time of 17:24.1. In fifth place was Haley Marston of Leavitt with a time of 17:33.3. Evelyn Lacasse of Greely took sixth place with a time of 17:45.4.
The Yarmouth men and the Freeport women took the 2025 Class B Nordic state championship. The Leavitt boys and the Greely and Leavitt girls were runners-up. Also congratulations to the Leavitt boys and girls for recieving the MPA Class B Sportsmanhip award.

February 18: On a cold and blustery afternoon at Black Mountain of Maine, Classes A, B, and C schools competed in the Maine Principals Association's 2025 State Nordic Ski Championships. In the men's race, Beckett Cote of Messalonskee High School in Oakland captured the gold, completing the 5k Classical race in 14:49.6. Taking silver was Mt. Blue High School's Heni McCourt with a time of 15:05.2. Capturing the bronze was his teammate Elias Bartlett with a time of 16:10.2.
In Class B, Greely's Tait Harvey took the top spot, finishing in 14:58.9. Second place went to Yarmouth High School's Alexander Gordon, who had a time of 16:20.9. In third place was Jacob Dening of Leavitt HS, who crossed the finish line in 16:31.2.
The Class C Champion is Alden Reardon of Fort Kent High School. Reardon completed the course in 15:42.2. In second place was Samuel Geissinger of Spruce Mountain High School in Jay with a time of 16:46.6. Also climbing to a podium position was Fletcher Marquis of Fort Kent, who finished with a time of 16:58.1.
Nora McCourt of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington captured the Women's Class A title, finishing the 5k Classical race with a best time of day 16:34.7. Second place went to her teammate Maya Kellett, who had a time of 17:39.4. In third place was Nora Condit of Edward Little High School with a finish of 19:47.3.
In Class B, Rowan Barry of Greely took gold with a time of 17:32.0. In second place was Ida Waterman of Gray-New Gloucester who crossed the line in 10:10.1. Taking the final podium position was Freeport High School's Lucy Huggett with a time of 19:12.4.
In Class C, Sassi Classical Champion Clara White of Orono took the top spot in Class C with the second best time of the day. White finished with a time of 16:48.2. Second place went to Fort Kent's Rowan Tanguay with a time of 19:08.9. In third place was Leah Kramer of Waynflete, who strided across the finish with a time of 19:23.0.
Racing continues tomorrow with the Freestyle pursuit. Race time is scheduled for 9:30 am for the men and 11:00 am for the women.
