Maranacook Men and Women Win Team Championship
February 12: Spruce Mountain's Ashley Nelson took top honors in the 2025 MVC Women's Slalom Race at Black Mountain. Nelson had times of 45.64 and 46.60 for combined time of 1:32.24. Second place went to Emerson Dunlap of Maranacook HS with times of 46.54 and 47.98, giving her a two-run total of 1:34.52. Coming in third place was Telstar High School's Jocelyn Nivus with runs of 48.39 and 48.92, giving her a 1:37.31 combined score.
Fourth place was taken by Maranacook's Hali Isaacson with times of 50.62 and 54.71 and a combined time of 1:45.33. In fifth place was Rangeley's Natalie Stokes with times of 51.65 and 51.74 for a total of 1:45.33. Taking the last award spot was Kendra Bor, skiing for Maranacook. She has times of 57.53 and 57.23 and a 1:54.76 total.
It was the second race of the day as the skiers had competed in the Giant Slalom race in the morning. With the strong performances, the Maranacook women took home the award as the 2025 MVC Alpine Team Championship.
In the men's race, Thatcher Riley, who had won the GS race in the morning, showed his consistancy with a victory in the slalom competition. Riley had runs of 41.08 and 41.38 for a combined time of 1:22.46 to win the MVC Championship. Second place went to his brother Tristan Riley with times of 42.16 and 42.09, a two-run total of 1:24.25. Maranacook's Adam Ellis made it a podium sweep for the Black Bears with runs of 42.36 and 43.00, giving him a two-run combined time of 1:25.36.
Ben Jewett of Maranacook took fourth place with runs of 47.53 and 46.92, a combined time of 1:34.45. In fifth place was Spruce Mountain's Jackson Archer, with times of 48.29 and 48.93 and a combined score of 1:37.22. Sixth place went to Maranacook's Sam Hayes with times of 48.88 and 49.11, and a total time of 1:37.99.
With the strong showing in the slalom race, Maranacook took home the 2025 MVC Men's Alpine Championship plaque.

February 12: Phoebe Bell edged out Lily Boulanger by .02 seconds to capture the Women's 2025 Mountain Valley Conference Giant Slalom Championship. The Maranacook HS skier had runs of 58.75 and 58.95 for a two-run time of 1:57.70 while the Mountain Valley HS skier posted times of 58.38 and 59.34 for a combined time of 1:57.72. Boulanger's first run was the fastest time of the day. Third place went to Telstar's Jocelyn Nivus, who crossed the finish line in 1:00.25 and 1:00.67, giving her a total time of 2:00.92.
Maranacook's Emerson Dunlap skied to times of 1:01.47 and1:00.68 for a combined score of 2:02.15 to take fourth place. Fifth place went to Ashley Nelson of Spruce Mountain HS, who tallied times of 1:01.28 and 1:01.30 and a total time of 2:02.58. Taking sixth place was Mountain Valley's Aubrey Farnum with runs of 1:01.44 and 1:01.49 for a combined time of 2:02.93. Finishing in seventh place was Rangeley High School's Natalie Stokes with times of 1:02.18 and 1:01.83 and a combined time of 2:03.81.
In the men's GS, Maranacook swept the podium, recording the 3 fastest combined times of the day. Thatcher Riley took the top honors with runs of 57.07 and 56.63 for a combined time of 1:53.70. Teammate Adam Ellis was in second with times of 57.94 and 58.23 and a combined score of 1:56.17. Also climbing to a podium position was Tristan Riley who had times of 58.04 and 58.29 and a total time of 1:56.33.
Jaxon August of Winthrop HS took the fourth position with times of 58.47 and 58.66 and a combined time 1:57.13. In fifth place was Maranacook's Josh Adams who posted times of 59.53 and 1:00.57 and a total time of 2:00.10. Grabbing sixth place was Spruc Mountain's Jackson Archer who skied to 59.72 and 1:01.54 times giving him a total of 2:01.23. Taking seventh place was Ben Jewett of Maranacook with runs of 1:02.21 and 1:01.27 and a combined time of 2:03.48.
Racing continues later in the day with the teams competing in the slalom race. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SLALOM START TIME HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO 1:00 PM

Orono junior Clara White repeated as the women's Mountain Valley Conference 
Nordic freestyle champion, completing the 5k course at Black Mountain in 15:07.6. Her time was the fastest time of either gender in the league. Coming in second place was Maranacook's Harper Olmstead, who finished in 19:20.7. Taking third place was Telstar's Ella Akers, granddaughter of local Nordic legend Leon Akers.
Maranacook's Anwen Kane skated across the line at the 21:16.3 to take fourth place. Fifth place went to Lida Kanoti of Old Town with a time of 21:24.0. Skylar Condon of Spruce Mountain HS grabbed sixth place with a time of 21:39.0. Rounding out the top seven was Eliie Arsenault of Orono, who had a time of 22:55.5.
In the men's race, Spurce Mountain's Samuel Geissinger took the gold with a time of 15:21.1. Coming in behind him was Orono's Liam Waring. He crossed the line in 16:05.8. Taking the final podium position was Sam St. Germain of Winthrop, who finished in 16:38.7.
Orono took the next three spots with Nathan Culina coming in fourth at 16:55.0, Reid Quirk in fifth with a 17:52.8 time, and in sixth place was William Stoner, finishing in 18:08.7. Finishing in seventh place was Gianni Haefele of Winthrop with a time of 19:00.2.
The championships continue on Saturday, February 8th, with the classical pursuit at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.

The 2025 Mountain Valley Skiing Championships will.be held at Black Mountain on February 5th (Nordic Freetyle Mass Start with KVAC) and February 12th (Alpine Slalom and Giant Slalom). Day 2 of Nordic Championships will be held at Titcomb Mountain on February 8th featuring the Classical Pursuit.
