Warriors Win State Crown
February 15: Kegan Lathrop captured the 2024 Maine Principals Association Class B State Slalom Championship at Black Mountain. On a sunny, but very windy morning, Lathop opened the competiton with a first run time of 38.36. 
His afternoon time of 40.24 gave him a combined time of 1:18.60 and a gold medal finish. Coming in second place with runs of 40.20 and 40.45 for a total time of 1:20.65 was Thatcher Riley of Maranacook. The bronze medal went to Yarmouth High School's Tyler Moore with times of 41.49 and 42.80 for a 1:24.29 combined time.
Fourth place went to Poland's Dylan Cobb, who had times of 41.89 and 43.63 for a combined time of 1:25.52. Finishing in fifth place was Fletcher Marquis of Fort Kent High School. Sixth place went to Tristan Riley of Maranacook who had runs of 43.28 and 44.73 for a combined time of 1:28.01.
The Fort Kent men won the Class B Alpine Team Championship with 767 points in the Giant Slalom and 750 points in the slalom for a team winning total of 1517. Cape Elizabeth took second with scores of 747 and 743 and a total of 1490. Maranacook came in third.

Fort Kent Women Capture State Title
February 15: Brooke Boone, winner of yesterday's giant slalom, made it two gold
medals in as many days as she's won the women's MPA Class B Slalom Championship. Boone had times of 43.82 and 42.82 for a combined 1:26.64 time to take the top podium spot. The silver medalist was Maranacook's Phoebe Bell, who had times of 44.72 and 45.17 for a combined 1:29.89 time. The bronze medal was won by York's Tia Spenlinhauer. The Wildcat had runs of 46.27 and 44.99 for a 1:31.26 combined time.
Rounding out the top six were Greely's Whitney Bond with times of 46.52 and 46.38, a combined 1:32.92 time. Fifth place finisher was Lily Boulanger of Mountain Valley, who had times of 48.26 and 46.35 and a combined time of 1:34.61. Fort Kent's Shelby Theriault came in sixth place with time of 47.69 and 48.06 for a combined time of 1:35.75.
The Fort Kent team won the women's state title with 731 points in giant slalom and 763 in the slalom for a total of 1494 points. State runnerup was Yarmouth High School with 1423 points.

February 14: On a windy day at Black Mountain, Yarmouth's Brooke Boone won the 2024 Maine Principals Association
State Class B Giant Slalom Championship. Boone had runs of 51:65 and 48:57 for a two-run total of 1:40.22. Coming in second place was Mountain Valley's Jaden Boulanger with runs of 52.61 and 48.39, giving her a total time of 1:41.00. In the final podium position was Breezy Quimby of Rangeley Lakes, who had runs of 54.20 and 49.79 and a combined time of 1:43.99.
Lily Boulanger of Mountain Valley took fourth with times of 54.32 and 49.98, for a 1:44.30 combined time. Fifth place went to Ashley Nelson of Spruce Mountain who had runs of55.31 and 51.54 (1:46.85) while Maranacook's Phoebe Bell came in sixth with times of 55.13 and 52.84 (1:47.97).
Racing continues at Black Mountain with the Class B Slalom races, beginning at 9:00 am.

February 14: With the Black Mountain wind showing its full force, Kaden Theriault led a field of 85 skiers
to capture the 2024 Maine Principals Association's Class B Giant Slalom Championship. The Fort Kent Warrior had runs of 48.83 and 43.80 for a combined time of 1:32.63 to take home the gold. Cape Elizabeth skiers took the other two poidium positions, with Logan Schwartz having runs of 48.71 and 44.24 for a 1:32.95 combined time. Teammate Keegan Lathrop's runs of 51.21 and 45.92 gave him a combined time of 1:37.13.
Theriault's teammate Max Bois took the fourth spot with times of 51.42 and 48.59 and a combined time of 1:40.01. Fifth place went to Cooper Dodge of York HS. He had times of 52.42 and 47.88 which gave hime a 1:40.30 combined time. In sixth place was Maranacook's Thatcher Riley with runs of 52.76 and 48.15, good for a combined score of 1:40.91.
