Dear Skiing Family,
This winter has started off in our favor with a great storm for the Holidays plus favorable weather for snowmaking. All areas are enjoying a great start to the season. Black Mountain is no exception with all trails and glades open and excellent conditions but the early storm cannot overshadow the snowmaking and grooming efforts by Jim Carter and his Mountain staff.
A lot has happened at Black this season with an increased snowmaking system, widened racing trail, cutting of five new glades, opening of a mile long cruising trail, new web page, improved lighting for night skiing and new look in the lodge. Most importantly a $150 season pass and a $15 lift ticket. With increased marketing, great conditions and the best family value around, people have discovered Black Mountain. We have enjoyed great crowds so far this season. Families are coming to Black Mountain and are enjoying the experience.
As we enter the race season, we are making plans for all racers, their families and recreational skiers to have an enjoyable experience at the Mountain. With the crowds we expect, we are making plans for better parking, as well as opening up the old base lodge for both waxing, team tailgating and equipment storage. This will be the beginning of the building transformation to a Nordic and Alpine Competition Center. Our plan is for the upper two tiers of the parking lot reserved for recreational skiers. Team bussing will gather in the lower lot. The middle lots as well as overflow parking in the old mass start area, to the right of the base lodge, will allow more parental parking, team access to the courses and outdoor waxing opportunities.
For those who want indoor waxing, we will provide the second floor of the wax building for heated and ventilated waxing on a first come first serve basis. Fee for the rental is $50 per race day or $100 for the 3 day State Meet event. Please call me @ 357-3719 or e-mail me at for your reservation. This is a lockable space with your own key for security. A $50 refundable key deposit is required. Please make checks payable to Black Mountain of Maine. We ask you to clean up after yourself and for everyone’s safety, no open flames. This is a great place for you and your team to get away from the crowded base lodge, secure your gear and to even have team meetings.
Tailgating is always welcomed at the Mountain and we encourage you to set up in the parking lot and on the first floor of the wax building. No power is available in the parking lot but each room in the wax building has power. Five rooms plus a common area is available and can be reserved free of charge on a first come first serve basis. Please reserve at the same contact above. Our base lodge offers full facilities with everyone welcome. However, we cannot allow any team feeding or tailgating in the lodge. All tables are open seating and cannot be reserved for anyone. New cubbies have been added to the lodge for storage of gear. No food or gear storage is allowed on tables. Anything left on tables will be removed to allow seating for everyone.
On behalf of Black Mountain of Maine as well as the Chisholm Ski Club, we would like to thank you for your corporation and wish you and your team success in the competitions.
Sincerely,
Roger Arsenault
