Mount Abram Captures Boys and Girls Overall Championships

After two postponements of the second day of competition, the MVC Championships concluded at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington. When the final scores were tallied, it was the Mt. Abram Boys and Girls taking the overall championships based on combined nordic and alpine scores.

The Lady Roadrunners combined score of 213 was over one hundred points better than second-place Mountain Valley at 320. Spruce Mountain finished third with a score of 336. Mountain Valley captured the alpine championship with a strong showing in the slalom race at Titcomb, while Winthrop won the nordic championship, outdistancing Dirigo by three points.

Individual alpine winners were Elise Luce of Mt. Abram in the Giant Slalom and Sarah Klein of Mtn. Valley in the Slalom. In nordic skiing competition, Emma Houston of Mt. Abram took gold in the freestyle race at Black Mountain on Day 1, while Izzy Grencer of St. Doms took top honors in the classical race at Titcomb on Day 2. Becki Bryant of Monmouth Academy won gold in Skimeister, given to the top overall competitor in both nordic and alpine events.

In the men's competition, the Mt. Abram nordic team's great racing in the classical race catapulted the Roadrunners to the combined MVC Championship. The team from Salem outdistanced runners-up Mtn. Valley 191-207. Mt. Abram also captured the nordic championship scoring 26 points better than Dirigo. Spruce Mtn. High School took the alpine title finishing 9 points ahead of Mtn. Valley.

Alex Hartford of Spruce had the best time in the Giant Slalom while teammate Steven Sylvester earned gold in the Slalom. Tom Faraday of Mt. Abram took the top podium spots in both the Nordic Freestyle on Day 1 and Nordic Classical on Day 2. Top Skimeister was Mtn. Valley's Conner Woods, who outscored teammate Lance Richard and Owen Timberlake of Spruce Mtn. by 10 points.
