Despite the rain and warm temperatures that plagued the ski areas recently, Black Mountain was able to pull of a very successful Chisholm Challenge on January 15th. Jenny Wilbraham, skiing for Morse High School of Bath, won the initial nordic race at Black Mountain, finishing the women's 5K Freestyle race in :16:20.4. Mt. Ararat's Karli Leighton came in second with a time of :17:45.0. Leavitt's Tamra Benson time of:19:17.4 was good enough for third place. Benson's Hornet Teammates took the next three spots, with Chloe Veilleux, Jaidyn Negley, and Ava Petrin coming in 4-6 repectively. For complete results, click here
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Black Mountain and Chisholm Ski Club legend Chummy Broomhall. Chummy, 98 years old, passed away December 30, 2017. His family is planning a life celebration to be held this summer. Details of the life celebration will be posted as the family finalizes the arrangements.

Lizzie Dieterich of Oxford Hills Middle School captured the gold medal at the Black Mountain Kickstarter Giant Slalom on December 22nd.
Dieterich had the fastest times in each of the two runs (23.22 and 23.83) for a combined time of 47.05. Madison Papianou of Moutain Valley, racing for the first time since a knee injury sidelined her last season, came in second, followed by teammates Brooke Buotte and Lauren Pelletier. Auburn Middle School's Anna Howaniec and Gianna Boulet finished in fith and sixth.
Rumford, ME - Monmouth Academy's Ehtan Thombs outskated a small field of 14 skiers to take first place in Black Mountain's 5K Freestyle race on January 5th. The race consisted of two laps of an excellently groomed 2.5K course. Trailing Thombs was Dirigo's Justin Cantin and Camden Hills' Marley O'Neil.
In the girls race, Edward Little's Tyne Finnerty edged teammate Kirsten Main by .3 seconds to earn the victory. Finishing third was Nicole Whitman of Dirigo.

In the boys competition Nick Newman of the Mountain Valley Falcons came in first on his home course with a combined time of 1:42.37. Edward Little High School's Kyle Mooney was second with a combined score of 1:48.85 with Lucas Alley of Spruce Mtn. HS was a close third at 1:48.95.
The Falcon boys had the top team score with 33 points. Camden Hills (35) and Edward Little (43) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
