Zach Ross led a balanced Quarry Road Ski Team with a victory in the 2023 Sassi Memorial Classical 5k at Black Mountain of Maine on Saturday, January 28. Ross earned the gold, crossing the finish line in 13:58.5. Gould Academy skiers took the next two medals, with Eli Shifrin taking silver with a time of 14:04.6, while Ellis Slover earned the final podium position, finishing in 14:15.
Also in the top 10 were Ben Condit, Abraham Giessinger, and Beckett Cote of Quarry Road, Henri McCourt of Mt. Blue, Parker Nellis of Gould Academy, Logan Ouelette of Leavitt HS, and Tait Harvey of Greely HS.
Gould Academy’s Nyla Scott was the top skier at the 2023 Sassi Memorial 5k Classical, completing the busy day of skiing by capturing the gold medal with a time of 16:15.8. Annabelle Brookes of Cheverus High School took the silver with a time of 16:33. Brunswick High School’s Maeve Woodruff took the bronze, crossing the finish line in 17:09.7.
Other top 10 skiers were Ruth White of Orono HS, Bridget Reusch of Mt. Blue HS, Kamryn Joyce of Gould Academy, Moriah Reusch of Mt. Blue, Sylvia Harvey of Greely HS, and Maya Kellett and Nora McCourt, both of Mt. Blue.

EVENT: 5km CLASSICAL 15 second interval start
SEEDING: Coaches to seed skiers as they deem.
AWARDS: Awards will be at approximately 3:15 pm in the Stadium. Racers must be present to win the bib draws.
COACHES MEETING: 9:15 am in the first floor of the timing building (optional).
WAX TESTING: Wax testing allowed on the course up to 10 minutes before the start. Everyone
must ski in the direction of the race course.
WAXING: Wax rooms are not available at this time
COURSE MOVEMENT: Spectators and coaches are welcome out on the side of the course during race.
Coaches must be wearing a coach’s bib. All others will require a nordic pass.
Skiers must travel in the direction of the race course at all times.
REGISTRATION: Entry fee $13.00 per athlete. Two coaches comp passes per team.

BIB PICK-UP: Bib pick-up will be in race headquarters upon arrival at Black Mountain. Race headquarters opens at 8:45am. Please return unused bibs prior to the start of the race. $50.00 fee charged for any lost bib.

This is a chance for Skiers in grades 12 and under from across the State to come together in one great event with a course and venue prepared to a National level. This is the premier event of the season and a great preparation for the State Nordic meet.
