jr sassi logo 125Mallory Raymond crossed the finish line in 10:18.7 to win the 2023 Jr. Sassi 3k Classical Mallory Raymondat Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford on Saturday, January 28th. Raymond, who skis for Gould Academy in Bethel, won the gold by finishing the course in just shy of 2 minutes faster than the rest of the field. Taking silver was Lillian Smith of Telstar, who had a time of 12:11.2. The bronze medal was won Zaya Irving of Quarry Road skiing in Waterville with a time of 13.07.2.

Rounding out the top 10 were Andrea Gunter of Quarry Road, Ejla Partridge of Oxford Hills, independent skier Harper Olmstead, Hazel Badgett of Quarry Road, Tess Smith of Telstar, Scout Simpson of Farmington Area Ski Team, and Amelie Van Der Meer of Quarry Road.

In the second race of the day amid heavy snow flurries, the boys 2023 Jr Sassi 3k, Damian WynnDamian Wynn of Farmington Area Ski Team captured gold, crossing the finish line in 10:17.2. Quarry Road Ski Team’s Lex Cote won the silver with a time of 10:32, wile Asher Roy of Oxford Hills took the bronze, striding across the line in 11:15.5.

Other top 10 racers were Nick Demarco and Elliot Gerald of Quarry Road, Quinn Hoeft, Wyatt Jessen, and Eli Young of FAST and Reece Pierce of Telstar.

Message to All Coaches

Please park all buses in the lower parking lot diagonally and as tight as possible. Please store your gear on the buses and not in the lodge.
Lodge is open to all parents and skiers but please do not take over a table. Need to share tables with everyone. Additional space can be found in the old base lodge which is dry, warm and has additional seating. 
Bathrooms are available along with food in the lodge. Bathrooms are also found in the old mass start area, near Murials kitchen and in the start/finish area.
Please share this information with your team parents.


START TIME:             9:00 AM     GIRLS

                                   9:30 AM     BOYS

EVENT:                      3km CLASSICAL 15 second interval start


SEEDING:                 Racers to be seeded from fastest to slowest.

AWARDS:                 Awards will be approx. 10:30 AM. Location to be announced. Racers must be present to win the bib draws.

COACHES MEETING:     8:00 AM in the timing building (optional).

WAX TESTING:         Wax testing allowed on the course up to 10 minutes before the start. Everyone must ski in the direction of the race course.


WAXING:                    Wax rooms are not available at this time.

COURSE  MOVEMENT: All spectators and coaches are welcome out on the course during race.
                                        Skiers must travel in the direction of the race course at all times.  

ENTRY DEADLINE:   January 25, 2023 by 8 PM.

                                                No change to start order on race day.

BIB PICK-UP:             Bib pick-up will be in race headquarters upon arrival at Black Mountain. Race headquarters opens at 8:00 AM. Please return unused bibs prior to the start of the race. $50.00 fee charged for any lost bib.

RESULTS:                   Copies of the official results will be made available in race headquarters shortly after the race protest period. Visit our web site for race results as well.


                        This is a chance for Junior Skiers in grades 8 and under from across the State to come together in one great event with a course and venue prepared to a National level. Come make this event the premier event of the season.
