NENSA Logo NEWThe Chisholm Eastern Cup at Black Mountain of Maine closed on January 15th with 6 classes competingTabor Greenberg Open Sprint in the 1.2k Classic Sprint. In the Men’s Open division, Tabor Greenberg of the Green Mountain Valley School advanced to the finals by winning each of his 2 qualifying heats. In the final sprint, Greenberg captured the gold, crossing the uphill finish ahead of his 5 competitors. In second place was his teammate Parke Chapin. The final podium position went to Eastern Massachusetts XC’s Nathan Doughty.

In the Women’s Open class, EMXC’s Evelyn Walton to top honors. She also had won both of her qualifying runs. The silver medal was won by Sofia Scirica of EMXC with Maddie Hooker of Stratton Mountain taking third.

Evelyn Walton Open SprintIn the Men’s U18/U20 division, Lincoln, Vermont native Joseph Graziadei of Green Mountain Valley took the top podium spot. Finishing in second place was Luke Rizio of Prospect Mountain Ski Club. Third place went to Riley Thurber, also of Prospect.

The  Women’s U18/U20 sprint was captured by Crafsbury Ski Club’s Meg Voison. Second place went to Caroline Tarmy of Statton Mountain while the bronze medal was won any Ann Rightmire of Ford Sayre.

The final two sprint races of the day were the U16 boys and girls. Craftsbury skier Sisu Lange skated across the finish line first to win the gold. Lorenzo Atocha of the Green Mountain team took second and third across the line was Charlie Kehler, also of Craftsbury.

The U16 girls completed the weekend of racing with Shaftsbury, Vermont’s Tanis White taking the gold. Leigh Niedeck of Eastern Massachusetts came in second while Lea Perreard of Ford Sayre took the final podium spot of the day.

The Chisholm Ski Club would like thank all of its volunteers, officials, NENSA staff, skiers and parents for a great weekend of competition.

In the final race at Black Mountain on Saturday, David NorthcottDavid Northcott, skiing for Caldwell Sport, was the fastest across the finish line, winning the Chisholm Eastern Cup men’s U16 5k freestyle in 12:52.7. Gould Academy’s Lucas Barstow won the silver with a time of 13:12.3. Taking the final podium position was Matias Citarella of Green Mountain Valley School, who finished with a time of 13:26.0.

NENSA Logo NEWMary Harrington of the Green Mountain Valley School won the U16 5k freestyle race Mary Harringtonat Black Mountain of Maine. Harrington won the Chisholm Ski Club Eastern Cup race with a time of 14:412.2. Second across the line was Amelia Circosta, skiing for the Craftsbury Ski Club, with a time of 14:57.0. Circosta’s teammate Clair Serrano came in third with a time of 15:07.6.

The race consisted of two trips around the well-groomed 2.5k trail on the renowned John Roderick Trail System.

Ben Ogden, skiing for the University of Vermont, captured the gold medal at the Bates Carnival EISA 7.5k freestyle race at Black Mountain of Maine on January 13th. Ben OgdenOgden’s winning time was 18:08.1 on the modified course that the Chisholm Ski Club and the Black Mountain crew prepared. Coming in second place was teammate Jacob Nystedt with a time of 18:13.7. Taking the bronze was Dartmouth’s Luke Allen, who completed the course in 18:29.7.

NENSA Logo NEWHaley Brewster of the University of Vermont captured the gold in the Women’s Eastern Cup 10k freestyleHaley Brewster race at Black Mountain of Maine of Saturday, January 14th. Brewster’s time was 27:34.4. Crossing the finish line second was Belmont, Massachusetts native Shea Brams of Middlebury, who had a time of 27:47.5. Third place went to two-time US Olympian Caitlin Patterson of Craftsbury with a time of 28:04.7. 

The races continue on Sunday with the 1.2k Classical Sprint beginng at 9:00 am with the men's races. The women are scheduled to begin at 9:45 am.

The University of New Hampshire’s Jasmine Lyons bested a field of 90 skiers in the Jasmine LyonsBates Carnival 7.5 freestyle race at Black Mountain of Maine. Lyons crossed the uphill finish line in 20:54.5 to win the gold. Taking the silver medal was Dartmouth’s Ava Thurston with a time of 21:3=25.5. Shea Brams of Middlebury skated across the finish line in 21:58.4 to take third place.

Ben Ogden 2Ben Ogden won his second consecutive race at Black Mountain on Saturday, January 14th, finishing the 10k freestyle in 22:21.2 to take the gold. The University of Vermont Olympian was followed by Tabor Greenberg of Green Mountain Valley School with a time of 23:16.0. The bronze went to Jacob Nystedt of UVM, who crossed the finish line in 23:18.5. The races continue on Sunday with the 1.2 Classical Sprints beginning at 9:00 am.

1/14 PM Update — Sunday’s race will be a Classic Sprint as scheduled.  The heats will not be timed and Lucky Losers will advance by bib number.  Grooming will commence beginning at course closure – the course is closed at 5pm.  There will be a track available above the start finish area for wax testing.  Course will open for preview Sunday at 7am. 1/13 PM Update — Start Lists are now posted.  Start intervals are :15 seconds — please note the finish corral is uphill — we ask that you try to get to the back of the corral upon finishing and clear the area as soon as possible.

The decision of discipline for Sunday’s sprint has been postponed until 12pm Saturday as the Jury assess the snow surface.
