2018 mvc round logo 100The Rangeley women's alpine team, skiing as an associate member of the Mountain Valley Conference, captured the 2021 MVC Alpine Championship at Black Mountain on March 3rd. In the Giant Slalom, the individual champion was Mountain Valley's Jaden Boulanger with runs of 58.80 and 58.50 for a two-run total of 1:57.50. Rangeley depth was the deciding factor in the team championship. The Lakers' Ameila Stokes finished second with a total time of 2:00.46. Third place went to Gabbie Gallant of Mountain Valley at 2:00.66, but she was the final Falcon scorer.

Rangeley took the next 3 scoring positions, with Bristol Quimby (2:01.30), Mya Laliberte (2:03.45), and Breezy Quimby (2:04.23) finishing 4,5, and 6 respectively. 

In the afternoon, the attention turned to the slalom event, with 5 of the top 6 finishes belonging to Rangeley. Breezy Quimby captured the gold with times of 47.20 and 47/98 for a two-run total of 1:35.18. Her teammates Amelia Stokes (1:37.39) and Jutumn Williams (1:38.38) captured the silver and bronze. Rounding out the top 6 were Gabbie Gallant (1:47.08), Mya Laliberte (1:47.46), and Jaxyson Haley (1:51.06) of Rangenley.

The team scoring had Rangeley at the top with 1,580.0 points, Mountain Valley with 595.0 points, Mt. Abram with 578.0, and Spruce Mountain with 383.0.

In the men's Giant Slalom, Mountain Valley HS again had the individual champion with Nate Gallant recording times of 58.03 and 59.84 for the 1:57.87 two-run total. Fellow Falcon Joel Tardiff finished in second place with a total time of 2:01.05. The 3rd spot went to Daxxton Williams of Rangeley with a total of 2:07.30. Spruce Mountain's lone male skier, Jack Gilbert, took 4th place with a 2:08.85. Rangeley's Tucker MacFawn came in 5th with a score of 2:10.60. Mt. Abram then took 5 of the next 6 spots with Tre Pease, Ian Allen, Aden Richards, and Sulley Butler all scoring for the Roadrunners.

In the slalom event, Rangeley's Charlie Pye bounced back with a gold medal effort to record times of 46;43 and 48.25 for the total of 1:34.68. Teammate Sully Butler was second with a two-run total of 1:42.45. 3rd place went to Nate Gallant with a 1:42.89 total. Other top 6 finishers were Daxxton Williams (1:44.16), Tre Pease (1:44.30), and Joel Tardif (1:50.43).

Once again depth and consistant skiing proved to be the deciding factor as Mt. Abram captured the Men's Alpine Championship with 1,551.0 points. Second place went ot Mountain Valley with 1,179.0 points. Rangeley finished in 3rd place with 1,170.4 points, with Spruce Mountain rounding out the scoring with 389.0 points. 

The Nordic teams will continue the competition at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center on Tuesday, March 9th.
