Rumford: The Fort Kent Boys, a balanced and deep team led in the slalom by Bryce Madore (5th), Austin Plourde (7th), Jonathan Haley (10th), and David Roy (13th) captured the 2017 Class B MPA State Alpine Championship at Black Mountain Ski Resort on February 22nd. Individual slalom gold went to Maranacook's Nathan Delmar, with a combined time of 1:21.70. Nick Newan, the GS champ from Mountain Valley, earned the silver, while Charles Dehass of Winthrop captured the bronze.
Other top ten finishers were Dehass's teammate Maguire Anaszewski (4th), Madore (5th), Curtis Gauvin of Mountain Valley (6th), Plourde (7th), Maranacook's Dennis Chiappetta (8th), Greenville's John Watt (9th) and Haley (10th).
The Mountain Valley Boy's were the Class B Alpine Runners Up, with Maranacook finishing 3rd.
In the girls' slalom race, Allison Acritelli was crowned the 2017 Class B State Champion, leading her Spruce Mountain Phoenix to the overall Class B alpine championship with 90 points. Taking the silver medal was Abbie Tyler of John Bapst while Abigal Landry of Telstar HS captured the bronze.
The Yarmouth girls finished second, only one point behind the Phoenix with 91 points while Maranacook had 106 points for 3rd place.
For the girls teams, the Spruce Mountain girls are the 2017 Class B Alpine team State Champions. They finished with a combined team score of 90 points. The Yarmouth girls finished in 2nd place with 91 points and Maranacook was 3rd with 106 points. Congratulations to the Maranacook boys and to the Caribou girls for earning the MPA Class B Sportsmanship Award.
Rounding out the top 10 for girls were 4th place finisher Hannah Van Alstine of Yarmouth, Katie Ide of Maranacook, Adria Plourde of Spruce Mountain, Kailee Guimond of Fort Kent, Yarmouth's Cate Ralph, Brianna Cobb of Greenville, and Elizabeth Rice of Maranacook.
