mpa logoGreely's Shellby Cowin captured the gold in the women's with times of 51.55 and 53.41 for a two-run total of 1:44.96. Yarmouth's Margaret Elder grabbed the silver with a combined time of 1:50.48 and rachel Tooth of Maranacok took the bronze, finishing with a combine of 1:55.98.

Rounding out the top six were Hannah Van Alstine (1:58.66) of Yarmouth, Janike Pakulski (1:58.83) of Maranacook, and state champion Fort Kent Community School's Alisha Guimond, winner of Wednesday's Slalom, finishing sixth (1:59.19). Other scorers for the champion Warriors were Olivia Martin, Jordan Tanguay, and Alexis Lovley. Finishing second was Maranacook and in third was Spruce Mountain.

mpa logoIan McKendry of Forest Hills was the top skier in the 2016 Class B Men's Giant Slalom at Black Mountain Ski Resort on February 18th. McKendry's combined time of 1:49.54 was over two and one-half seconds faster that Fort Kent's Joey Guimond, who won the Slalom race on the previous day. Mountain Valley's Nick Newman took the bronze medal with a score of 1:52.39. Other top six finishers were Maguire Anaszewski of Winthrop (1:54.52), Greely's John Watt (1:57.58), and Fort Kent's Jonathan Haley (1:59.19).

The Fort Kent Community School Warriors, although they didn't ski quite as well as they had on the previous day's slalom, still had the best team performance on the hill en route to the 2016 Class B Alpine State Championship. Host Mountain Valley Falcons finshed a strong second. Besides Guimond, other scores for the Warriors were Jonathan Haley (6th), David Roy (8th), and Daniel Rioux (11th). Congratulations to all the skiers for their great performances.

mpa logoAlisha Guimond led the Fort Kent Ladies Alpine team to a first day lead by taking the gold in the slalom race at Black Mountain on Wednesday, February 18th. Guimond posted times of 51.07 and 50.01 for a 1:42.08 total on the challenging 82 meter race. The Black Mountain crew did a fantastic job getting the course ready after Mother Nature dumped 4 inches on snow followed by drenching rains the day before the race. Several skiers struggles with a difficult gate on the downside of the headwall, with the Fort Kent women able to navigate it better than any other team to jump out in front of their competition. Spruce Mountain of Jay's Allison Acritelli took the silver with a combined time of 1:45.56 while Guimond's teammate Janika Pakulski took bronze, finishing with a combined score of 1:49.28.

mpa logoFollowing the lead of their lady counterparts, the Warriors of Fort Kent Community High School captured top team honors in the men's slalom competition at Black Mountain on February 18th. Led by Joey Guimond, who took the gold medal with runs of 45.70 and 45.07 for a combined score of 1:30.77, the team in the bright green and yellow suits finshed the day with a point total of 15 points.
