Led by Lucy Garrec's first place finish in the women's 10K freestyle and Wyatt Fereday and Sam Mathes' one-two finish in the men's 10K Colby College outdistance runner up Bates College to win the 2010 Chummy Broomhall Cup. The victory earned Colby the distinction of being named the Maine Collegiate Nordic Champion in the 4th year of the Award. Finishing in third place was Bowdoin College, followed by the University of Maine Presque Isle, the University of Maine Orono, and a combined team of University of Maine Farmington and U Maine Fort Kent. Garrec outdistanced Bates College Junior Natalie Ruppertsberger by 24.9 seconds, while Fereday nipped teammate Mathes by .5 of a second. The event, put together by the Maine Winter Sports Center (MWSC), is named in honor of Rumford native, 10th Mountain Division veteran, two-time Olympian and the firgurehead of the Chisholm Ski Club, (one of the nations oldest and most active ski clubs), Wendall "Chummy" Broomhall.
