The Chisholm Ski Club in Rumford, Maine is very proud again to host the US Cross Country Championships this January. The Club’s reputation for successful hosting of such high level events has garnered this signature event for yet another year. Over 500 cross country skiers from across the United States will again descend on the River Valley to compete for National titles. Add coaches, parents and ski industry support staff, and this 10-day event has a huge economic impact on our region.

You may have seen the article in the November 25th edition of the Sun Journal on our own 10th Mountain Division Veteran and two-time Olympian—91-years-young—Chummy Broomhall in which he aptly noted: “It’s only a little club . . . but we do big things.” To do those big things we incur big obligations, including housing and feeding the US Ski Team and the US Adaptive Team—many of whom are veterans who became disabled defending our country, and who race in special sleds using only their upper bodies to propel themselves uphill and steer down.

This year, in spite of a very tight budget, the Club voted to waive all registration fees for veterans, in hopes of attracting more of them to the sport and our races. We invite you to attend these races if only to be inspired by these athletes. A sight to behold! With a total budget of over $100,000, we only do those “big things” with your help. Please consider a tax deductible donation to our 501(c)(3) non-profit Club, knowing you are not only supporting a great Western Maine skiing tradition but also are part of the economic engine of our region!
